You Are Worth the Wait: What to Do If You Feel Pressure to Have Sex

You Are Worth the Wait

Will he like me more if …?
Will he stay with me if…?
He must love me if…?
Everybody is doing it.

Are you feeling pressured to have sex or do other things that you really don’t want to do? Don’t compromise yourself to feel loved. Listen to that voice inside that says…No, Wait, or I’m not ready.

Having a high self esteem also means knowing your self-worth. And when it comes you sex, you are worth the wait.

Things to Think About

  • Losing your virginity is like giving away a precious gift that should only be given to someone special.
  • Just because you have had sex before, doesn’t mean you have to keep having sex.
  • Sex doesn’t justify that somebody cares about you.
  • Having sex too soon can create a dependency relationship.
  • You want someone who truly enjoys being with you, even without sex involved.
  • If he loves you, he will wait.
  • How to Say No to Sex
  • There is always a chance of pregnancy…Would you be ready right now for parenthood?
  • Everybody is not doing it!
  • Your body is the temple of the Lord.

Know what your boundaries are. Know lines that you are not willing to cross.

Here’s an idea: Write down lists for yourself, then stick with it.

  • What are my boundaries?
  • How do I want to be treated by a boyfriend?
  • What characteristics do I look for in a friend/boyfriend?

Be Aware of Manipulation

Some guys may get upset or treat you differently when you don’t “put out” like they want. It’s never cool for someone to insult you or make you feel guilty for not having sex. Feeling pressure to have sex doesn't mean you must say yes. You should be in control of your own body and remain true to yourself. Someone who really cares about you will respect your boundaries.

Here are 2 great songs about Waiting....

"Wait for Me" by Rebecca St. James

"Love is Waiting" by Brooke Fraser
