In today’s society, many people find themselves living to win the approval from others. Ladies desperately want to live up to standards set by what's in the media and by girls and women seen in magazines, TV, or in the halls at school. You may relate to this. Maybe you feel you need to be a certain weight, look a certain way, have certain material things, or belong to a certain type of family.

Perfection is not reality. Having these standards can cause you to feel insecure about yourself and make you feel as if you can never measure up. Free yourself from these insecurities by getting out of the box...the box that says that everyone must be the same or look and act a certain way in order to be special, important, or even worthy. Be who you are and stop caring about what other people's opinions of you are. What ought to matter most is what God thinks about you and what you think about yourself.

Be careful to not compare yourself to others. When you do, in your own mind you might tell yourself, “I’ll never measure up.” The fact is, you are not someone else; you are you, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Comparing yourself to others limits you from expressing yourself fully, being content with who you are, and appreciating what you have. Also, when you compare yourself to others you’re probably looking at what is on the outside. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain (Proverbs 31:30).

Take time to imagine all the joy you can have inside when you stop thinking about what others think about you. Shift your focus on what God thinks about you and actually love who you are on the inside and out.

Know that God Loves You

You were fearfully and wonderfully made.

Psalm 139:13-14
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

God cares enough about you to know the exact number of hairs on your head. You are special to God, and you have a purposeful uniqueness that no one else has.

Luke 12:7
Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Psalm 8:3-5
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

1 Samuel 16:7
…For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.

Love Yourself

Your uniqueness is better than conforming to someone else.

If someone does not accept you as you are, maybe they are the one that needs to change.

You are beautiful, not because you meet a standard set by a few people in society, but because you just are.
