How to Replace Negative Thoughts with Positive Ones

It’s never okay to think or say negative things about yourself…period. Positive thinking has to become a way life for you!

It’s not okay to down yourself about your looks, social status, or accomplishments. You may feel down for now, but shifting your focus on positive things and giving yourself a pep talk can make a big difference in your mood.

Everyone has negative thoughts sometimes, but we have to pop them like bubbles. This is because when we dwell on negative thoughts, the enemy plays on our vulnerability. Next thing you know, one thought turns into several.

Negative Thoughts Contribute to:

  • Depression
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Insecurity
  • Eating Disorders

Make a decision to change your attitude despite your feelings.

Practice replacing negative thoughts with positive ones. It helps to have a specific affirmation for every negative thought. For every lie, speak the truth. Here are the steps you should take:

Say it out loud.

  • Write it down.
  • Put it on the mirror.
  • Put it in a nice picture frame.

Here are some examples of positve truths you can use to replace negative thoughts.

Negative Thought (Lie)

I'm not pretty.

I can't do it.

“If I’m not perfect, I won’t be loved.”

“I hate my body.”

Positive Thought (Truth)

I am beautiful. I was fearfully and wonderfully made.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

You are loved because God chose you. He doesn’t look for perfection. He wants you. You can make mistakes.

If your body has suffered from a lack of self-care, begin to take care of it. Otherwise, you hate what God designed. He has already chosen you as His bride. He wants your heart, not your physical body, but He created that body.
